Decided to head to the gym more in 2023? You’ve probably got a bunch of goals. Gaining muscle, losing weight, toning up, or simply staying fit and healthy… But one aspect that’s easy to forget is the importance of hydration.

Failure to prioritise rehydration results in a dip in our energy levels. That sluggish and lethargic feeling happens when your body suffers from a lack of water, but also means you're off your A game when it comes to getting the most out of your workout.

In the Chilly’s Journal this week we’re sharing our 4 top tips to stay hydrated when you head to the gym.

Gym Water Bottles: Is big always best in the gym?

Top tips to stay hydrated at the gym

1. Hydrate before, during, and after your workout

If you know you’re going to hit the gym after work, set a reminder to top up your Original Sports Bottle before you get to the gym.

Rehydrating beforehand can contribute to better circulation and heart health. Being adequately hydrated also supports energy levels, preventing fatigue and muscle cramping. You’ll workout harder, faster and for longer if you’re optimally hydrated.

2. Remind yourself to drink

Add reminders to drink water to all of your workout routines, whether it’s while you rest between reps or as you walk to your next station.

If you prefer to wing it whilst you work out, set reminders in your phone to go off every fifteen minutes minimum. This ensures you replace any fluid that is lost through sweat, meaning you don’t risk overheating and you can maintain good performance levels for longer.

3. Save money as you hydrate

On average a 500ml bottle will set you back about 80p (an optimistic figure these days). If you hit the gym three times a week, buying a bottle every time you exercise you could spend upwards of £125 on single use plastic bottles!
