About Alex Jenkins

Chilly's: What was the inspiration behind your bottles?

Alex: I wanted to create an image that was nice upon the eye yet still kept an element of humour and sarcasm (that I often try to include in my work) so I decided to choose these designs.

C: Can you tell us a bit about your typical creative process?

A: I sketch ideas, I find these appear the most when Im a bit sleepy. Then I’ll attempt to turn the sketch into a finished illustration. I usually work digitally, I find it suits my way of working which is trying to produce illustrations as much as possible.

C: Could you tell us a little about your background and how you ended up doing what you do? Is this your dream job or was it an unexpected turn of events?

A: 9 years ago I would never have imagined I would be an illustrator at this point. I left school with poor grades and uncertainty loomed over me when thinking about a career move or what path to pursue. Drawing was something I was confident in and things sort of mapped out after completing an art foundation course and then studying an illustration BA at Camberwell college of Arts.

C: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to any aspiring creatives?

T: I would say don’t hesitate to contact people in the industry. Whether that be looking for work or seeking advice. There is nothing to fear and everyone is really nice.

"This is heads floating in space, which I guess is depicting people caught up in their own worlds. I don’t like to take it too seriously, and I’ll leave the rest up to your own interpretation!"

"This design is a scene that’s a bit like rush hour, with lots of angry cramped bodies entangled on each other."
